The Gateway Project.

A science corporation pursued the ultimate goal of creating stable black-hole/white-hole pairs for instantaneous matter transportation across space.

Their research progressed through three phase of development : initial success with controlled macroscopic gateways under controlled environments, followed by ambitious gravity manipulations.

This phase ended in catastrophe and humanity would not see it's conclusion. Eventually, the corporation's advanced AI system carried on their ambition and successfully created the first artificial black-hole/white-hole pair.

Humanity was unable to witness it.
